Also part of our farm is registered in a group (KOKAN ORGANIC GROWER GROUP) formed by ATMA of Maharshtra Government for Sendriya Faming and it is now CERTIFIED ORGANIC under third party NPOP certification.

Organic certification is done by ADITI ORGANIC CERTIFICATIONS PVT LTD, Bangaluru for SAMRUDDHI ORGANIC FARM, PUNE.

Our mangoes are cultivated without chemicals. No chemicals as fertilizers or pesticides. For pest control we used neem extract, dashparni ark (limited quantity as preparation is lengthy), Green chilli-ginger extract. Also to control the pest we used light traps during night time along with yellow sticky traps. With these traps we are able to control pest during flowering season.

We use feromone traps for fruit fly control. Our main fertiliser is dry cow dung along with oil cake from wooden churner, compost prepared at farm etc which we applied before start of rainy season and during rainy season we used jeevamrut for drenching. We gave three sparys of jeevamrut before and during flowering.

A little bit about the Alphonso (Hapus) Mango

Alphonso is not an Indian fruit, but it is foreign fruit that is brought to India by Portugese explorers during 1600s to Goa. The credit goes to Alfonso De albuquerque and hence the ALPHONSO name is derived. From goa it is then taken to different parts of Coastal Maharashtra like Ratnagiri district. Due to favourable climate, red latrite soil and ample rain fall the plantation of this fruit grew over years. The red latrite soil is rich in Iron, aluminium, magnesium etc in mineral forms and hence the taste and aroma.

The main season of this Alphonso is from April first week to May last week. During this period temperature in this region is around 38 to 40°C and humidity is very high. These two factors help the maturation of fruit and development of taste and aroma for which this variety is famous.

Now a days due to implementation of new techniques such as use of Paclobutrazole ( CULTAR ) for early flowering and use of ripening agents like Carbide, ethereal as ripenin agent are used by many traders and season starts as early as January. But the fruits available during this period lack the taste and aroma for which this fruit is famous.

The characteristics of our RATNAGIRI ALPHONSO MANGO are :

  • Tempting aroma of matured fruit and even after ripening.
  • Sweet taste
  • Yellow – orange colour of pulp
  • Less fibre content
  • Low moisture content and hence longer shelf life when riped
  • Thin skin when riped which can be peeled like banana
